This week we looked at the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ ready for a performance by M+M productions who came and entertained us. We learnt how trees spread their seeds widely to find good soil and thought up six good reasons why we need trees. Mr Saunders talked to us about keeping healthy and showed us his marathon medals. In Maths we have been using our good knowledge of bonds to ten to help us solve adding problems with larger numbers and take away calculations. We were visited by two teachers from St. Margaret’s Academy who enjoyed watching us work with the numicon plates.

This week we have labelled a tree and learnt what it needs to be healthy. We’ve been taught how to draw a tree and learnt the names of the 4 most common tree in Great Britain. In our daily phonics lesson we have (amongst other things) learnt you, your, you’re. In handwriting we are exploring the letters that hang under the line. In Maths we have been introduced to Multiplication and have explored this new idea through unifix, numicon and cuisenaire. Here are some pictures of our exciting trip to the pantomime!

We’ve been working very hard this week starting our new topic, ‘In the deep dark wood’. We did some beautiful writing imagining walking through a creepy forest at night. Our chalk work will help us create trees for us to walk through in the corridor. We investigated BIG numbers in maths which was very exciting! Looking forward to the panto ‘Robin Hood’ on Friday
